Procedure for Commissions

Including Pet Portraits

Liz

Unless otherwise agreed upon, for the convenience of patron and artist, all portraits, including Pet Portraits, photographs supplied by and/or taken by the patron and/or taken by the artist are used as reference.  Posthumous portraits based on other photographs not taken by family will need written permission by the photographer for use as painting reference before work begins.  After the initial contact is made, a meeting is scheduled to discuss the patron’s wishes regarding the painting to be commissioned.   From the approval of rough sketches to the final painting, the patron will be updated via e-mail.

Prices start at $500 for a graphite portrait drawing, size 11” X 14” and $1500 for an oil portrait, size 16” X 20”.   A non-returnable deposit of 50% is required before any work is begun on commissions with balance due at completion and approval of painting.   Travel, lodging, framing, and shipping for non-local patrons are additional expenses.   Terms are fully discussed and covered in a written contract.

Estimated length of time for completion of a painting can be 6 weeks or 6 months to a year and is determined by size of painting and/or fully illustrated backgrounds.

A special note about Triple Portraits

Triple portraits are available for commission of a pet or a person.

For birthdays, Holidays, anniversaries ... a triple portrait of a child at different stages of his/her life makes a fantastic present for Mom and Dad.  A triple portrait of someone’s beloved furbaby also makes a great gift!

Starting at $1500 in graphite and $5000 in oil, these drawings and paintings are larger, more involved compositions and require a minimum of 6 months to complete.  Order early to get your portrait in time for your special gift giving occasion.

Each portrait is unique.  It is an heirloom passed down through generations, therefore It is an emotional investment for both the patron and the artist.  It is as personal to me, the artist, and it is to you, the patron.  Every painting is the accumulation of an ongoing lifetime of study and exercise.

My work is available as prints and cards at Fine Art America and on a variety of products at The Art of Liz Viztes Zazzle Store.  This excludes commissioned artwork.  All commissioned artwork, including portraiture, is considered private and will not be made available for prints or cards.
